Visit a local petting farm or park where there are ducks.
Don’t forget to bring bread so the children can feed the ducks. Ducks can often be aggressive when feeding, so watch children closely during this event. Use your own discretion.

Wooly Sheep (2+ years)
Materials: Paper plate, cotton balls, glue, scissors.
Directions: Cut out a lamb shape from a paper plate. Pour glue out on a tray and dip cotton into glue and place onto the lamb to make it wooly.
Pig Stick Puppets (3+ years)
Materials: Paper plate, paint, paintbrush, construction paper, scissors, glue, popsicle stick
Description: Have children paint their paper plates pink. When dry, glue on facial features of a pig cut from construction paper. Use a circle for the eyes, nose, and nostrils, and triangles for the ears. Then glue a popsicle stick to the back to make it into a paper plate puppet. You can cut out the eyes if you would like, so the children can also wear them as mask. |
Guess the Animal (18+ months)
Materials: Any pictures of farm animals cut from a magazine, or flashcards, and a paper bag.
Description: Form a circle. Have each child pick a picture out of the bag and let them make the noise of the animal they picked (caregivers may need to assist). The others have to guess what animal it is. Little ones enjoy this because often they find imitating sounds is easier than speaking some words. |
Feed mix
Ingredients: Pretzels, corn chips, CORN POPS®, other grain cereals
Directions: Combine in a pan and serve in Dixie™ cups.
Pigs in a Blanket
Ingredients: Hot dogs, refrigerated crescent rolls, and condiments.
Directions: Roll the hot dogs inside the uncooked crescent rolls. Place on cookie sheet and bake as directed. To "feed" the pigs, put some ketchup, mustard or barbecue sauce on the plate for dipping.
Purple Cows
Ingredients: Milk and grape juice
Directions: Pour half milk and half grape juice in a clear cup and serve. |
Stuffed Animals (6+ months)
Materials: Child’s favorite stuffed animal from home.
Description: Have each child “show and tell” their stuffed animal. Introduce the animal to the group, then describe the physical characteristics and where it came from. Children have fun showing their toys, and especially if Mom or Dad are showing it.
On the Farm (12+ months)
Materials: Lincoln Logs™ and a farm animal toy
Description: Let each child build a farmhouse or barn to put the animals in.
*Babies enjoy seeing and feeling the different kind of animals. Lincoln Logs™ are optional for the younger children.

Listening: Have the children identify
the
sound of farm animals.
Acknowledge
their
listening skills and
make them
aware of
how they listen
by using their
ears. It is
good to know
how to use your
ears for
listening to Mom and Dad, too.
