Form a marching band and march around the neighborhood.
Make hats or use hats you have around the house, horns, drums, and any instrument that could be used to make music. Also, pull out some old clothes and let the children dress up.

Toilet Paper Rolls (2+ years)
Materials: Toilet paper roll, streamers, tape, and scissors.
Description: Use toilet paper rolls for horns. Punch holes in the top to make different sounds or tape streamers to the inside to make pom pons.
Band necklaces: (3+ years)
Materials: Macaroni noodles, straws, scissors, tape, and yarn.
Description: Cut a piece of yarn big enough to fit loosely around the child’s neck. Tape the ends and thread on the macaroni and pieces of straws (cut up the straws in 4 or 5’s). Once finished, tie the ends together to create a necklace. |
Dance & Hold (6+ months)
Materials: Music and scarves or crate paper
Description: Turn on the music and dance around. Once the music stops freeze or fall down. When the music begins, start dancing. Use scarves to dance with. For babies use the scarves and encourage them to follow the scarf with his/her eyes. This will help to improve the baby’s eye coordination.
Parachute Play (18+ months)
Materials: Bed sheet, balls, and music.
Descriptions: Use a sheet as a parachute but soft type balls such as NERF™, beach, or plastic balls in the middle and form a square/circle around the sheet. Have everyone lift the sheet and shake when the music starts, not letting the balls bounce off the sheet. Once the music stops drop the parachute.
Follow the Leader (2+ years)
Description: Have one person (or caregiver and child team) dance and do different steps while the rest follow. Take turns being the leader. |
Sugar Cookies
Ingredients: Any sugar cookie recipe and musical cookie cutters.
Directions: Use cookie cutters to cut out musical instrument shapes. Frost if desired. |
Instruments (12+ months)
Materials: Pots, pans, lids, and wooden spoons.
Description: Let the children make their own music.

Problem Solving: If a conflict arises,
explain alternatives for a resolution.
Let the child, or children, chose which
alternative they feel will satisfy the
solution and resolve the conflict.
Encourage the right solution and
congratulate them on making the
right choice.
